Quien Soy Yo?

My name is Susana Lopez,I was born and raised in El Paso Tx. I love calling El Paso my beautiful home for so many reasons such as being raised by two very wonderful parents. Both of my parents were born in Mexico and now they are U.S citizens. Just like many others, they have the American dream of working, and having their children recieve an education for a better life. That is why I also have the same goal for my beautiful and amazing son. I can proudly say I am a Mexican American because I get to be part of two cultures. I dont think I have ever done only one culture. Being a Mexican American I get to celebrate different holidays and traditions. For example in Mexico you get to celebrate quinceneras, posadas, Dia del nino, Cesar Chavez, Cinco de Mayo, diesiseis de Septiembre, and for the U.S I get to celebrate Thanksgiving, Presidents day, Forth of July, Labor day and more. When you are Mexican American you get to celebrate two diffrent traditions and you also get to be bilingual. I love being able to speak two languages and being able to express myself in two diffrent languages. At home I mostly spoke Spanish and at school English. That is why I never forgot my spanish. This really helped me growing up because of the reason we live next to the Mexican border. I have always thought it is impotant to know both languages English and Spanish since we can use it in this beautiful city. I have found it very useful in jobs and at school. I believ being bilingual can bring more oportunities in the future such as jobs or even muti tasking. I aslo believe being a bilingual person can help perform better in other subject areas. For me it has always been important to kmow where I come from and also to keep or culture and traditons that way I can share them with my son.
